Coloma Community Schools is near and dear to my heart, as I am a proud alumna of the Class of 1987! My college experience began at Hope College, but I graduated from Olivet College in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Right away I began long-term subbing at Coloma Middle School (next door to my mom) in 7th grade AWARE. 1993 was a big year because I got married and signed my first official teaching contract at Coloma Junior High where I spent six years teaching life science and coaching Science Olympiad. After having my first child, I was fortunate to be hired at Coloma High School in January of 2000 to teach biology, zoology, anatomy and advanced biology. Over the last 20 years, it has been my privilege to work alongside outstanding educators, administrators and especially the 2,000+ students that make my "job" not seem like a job at all! I truly love learning alongside my students while teaching them about the intricacies of life from the chemical to global levels. I believe science education should be experiential, so my approach is to have students "doing science" as opposed to "reading about science."
My husband and I currently reside in Coloma and have two daughters who are both juniors - one in college and the other in high school. As a family we love to travel, enjoy music, appreciate lake life, and are active in our daughter's sporting events and fine arts performances.
