Health Science
The Professional Health Careers Academy at Coloma Community Schools is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field. This program provides an in-depth introduction to healthcare professions through a blend of coursework and internships at local healthcare facilities. During the first nine weeks, students will learn essential skills such as taking vital signs, performing Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR), First Aid, and effective patient communication. The remainder of the year combines classroom learning, college credit, and hands-on experience through internships. Students will also have the opportunity to develop teamwork and leadership skills through the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) organization. Enrolled students can earn direct college credit through Lake Michigan College, making this an excellent stepping stone for further education in the healthcare field. A strong foundation in science is recommended for those interested in joining the program.
